Welcome to our website - a glance into our St. Margaret of Cortona - St. Gabriel School community, one that we are incredibly proud of!
You can glean a bit of our history and our mission by scrolling to the left, but what I would like to do is introduce you to the essence of SMSG. We are, as our slogan proclaims, Riverdale's Catholic School. Why our school is a thriving, energetic and happy one is because of who - and what - we are. We are proud of our roots, as you can see upon entering the front door and are greeted by our first graduating class, that of June 1927. We are proud of our faith. We are proud of our outstanding record of high school placement, one further bolstered this year by the astounding number of scholarships our Grade 8 students were offered. We are, in a word, proud.
What we offer here is an experience that is centered on the whole child - academically, spiritually, creatively and athletically. And it all begins with our relationship with our parish, St. Margaret of Cortona. This relationship is the glue of our entire school community. To watch our beloved pastor, Fr. Sean Connolly, and our beloved parish priests, Fr. Walter and Fr. Timothy, teach a class per week to our Grade 1-8 students is to watch spiritual beauty, itself. Our monthly Mass, our sacraments made, our daily morning and afternoon prayers - all offer the nourishment of spirit that keeps us united.
What we offer here is an academically excellent educational experience. Powered by current technology, grounded in best educational practice, our curriculum is longitudinal. Each grade builds upon the foundation laid during the year prior, by design. This not only provides a proper scaffold for every student, but it also allows us to track them as they progress, allowing for the maximization of the educational outcome for each of our students.
What we offer here is an afterschool activity for every student - whether they are athletically or artistically inclined, in Kindergarten or Grade 8. Our basketball program, our most popular, incorporates both intramural and intramural teams, from Grades K through 8, boys and girls. Our arts program has a wide selection, from Piano to Musical Theatre to Choir. By partaking in the many extracurricular offerings, a student can expand his or her horizons, no matter their likes and passions!
In short, what we offer here is a proper Catholic School experience - one rooted in our faith, designed for student success, grounded in rigor, offered with care. Thank you for your interest in our community, and may God bless you and your endeavors.
