If you take a quick peek at the calendar you will be amazed to see that we are at the end of February. Lent will begin next week and Easter is not too far off.
Grades 3 to 8 will attend the 8:30AM Mass on Wednesday, February 26th and receive ashes during the Liturgy.
Re-Registration and Enrollment
Our Enrollment push is underway. We ask all of our current families to re-register as soon as possible. This will allow for planning, but more importantly, ensure that you do not lose your child’s space for next September.
To further emphasize the importance, we currently have 66 applications submitted by new families for September. The bulk are in PK and K, but there is interest in each grade. And although several classes have the room, there are some that do not.
We are asking our families to complete enrollment by next Friday. After that, we will start prioritizing the acceptance of applications based on the available spaces in each class.
Also, I want to highlight the Referral Program of the Archdiocese. If you refer our school to a family and it results in an additional family registering at the school, you will receive a $100 credit on your Enrollment Fee. The form is attached and posted on our website.
Pre-K For All Registration
If you, or someone you know, is interested in the PK4A Program, they should use this link to register. They should NOT use the Archdiocesan site to submit an application.
Report Card envelopes must be signed and returned to the teacher. If you haven’t, please do so right away. Conferences can be scheduled with teachers to discuss concerns or if you need clarifications.
The Foreign Language grade was not entered for the 2nd Quarter. I felt that it was unfair to expect our substitutes to evaluate our students based on the short time they were with us. Also, it would be too difficult for Mrs. Morello to do so in the short time she has been back with us. Therefore, the 3rd Quarter Grade will reflect the progress students make for both quarters.
We also sent home copies of the students’ MAP Results. Although full of information, the reports we sent home should explain the results clearly. Should you have any concerns, contact your child’s teacher to discuss.
Honors - 2nd Quarter
See below for the list of students achieving Honors for the 2nd Quarter:
Stop, Drop & Go - Delafield Avenue
We are closing the Delafield Avenue Stop, Drop & Go location as of Monday, February 24th. After several discussions about the limited use, weather concerns, safety & security factors, it has been deemed appropriate to shut this location down. We will look into reopening at a future date if we are able.
After School Program - PreSchool
We are making an adjustment to our After School Program that will provide our youngest students with a more conducive location and program.
Starting Monday, February 24th, our PK-3 and -4 students will be escorted to Room 101 where Mrs. Donna Brandt and her staff will supervise and engage with them. The space will be much more favorable to children at this age-level and their specific needs.
Varia
Neighborhood Complaint
The school received a call this week about students menacing and harassing people in the neighborhood. The students were identified as attendees of St. Margaret's because they were wearing their basketball uniforms. And when reprimanded by the neighbor, they ran into the school.
Please speak with your child and remind them of the expected behavior. If they are identified as behaving poorly and treating our neighbors disrespectfully, they will be suspended from school and, possibly, asked to leave.
This information was given to Mrs. Bader who will be sharing it with the basketball coaches.
Finally, as stated in the Handbook:
It is the expectation of St. Margaret’s School that student behavior is exemplary both on and off school grounds. A student always represents his or her parents and the entire school community. Therefore, the school reserves the right to punish students for acts such as, but not necessarily limited to stealing, fighting, vandalism, bullying or any other type of threatening or inappropriate conduct (personally, via the telephone or the Internet). Such misconduct could result in punishments including suspension and/or expulsion.
Student Council Dance
The Student Council will hold a middle school dance on Friday, February 28th from 7PM to 9PM. Permission Slips are coming home and MUST be returned by the deadline in order to attend. Also, students who are sick on Friday and do not come to school ARE NOT to attend the dance.
We have been quite lucky in the SNOW Day department. Should our luck hold out, and we do not have to use our Snow Days in March, we will be closed for two full weeks at Easter.
Students in the Spotlight
One of our Graduates, Ananda Burgos, Class of 2016, earned First Honors designation from Preston High School. Students are named to First Honors should they earn an average of 93 or above and earn no grade lower than an 80.
